Election for Renewal of Excess Levy

NOTICE OF SPECIAL 

ELECTION FOR RENEWAL OF MUNICIPAL EXCESS LEVY

TAKE NOTICE

That a special meeting of the Town Council of the Town of Cairo, State of West Virginia, held on the 2nd day of December, 2014, as provided by law, the following order was made and entered of record to-wit:

The Council of the Town of Cairo being of the opinion that the maximum levies for current expenses authorized by Article 8, Chapter 11, of the code of West Virginia, as amended, will not provide sufficient funds for payment of current expenses of the Municipality, including expenditures for the purpose or purposes hereinafter set forth, and that an election should be held to renew such levies under the provisions of Section 16, Article 11, of the Code, as amended, it is hereby ordered:

1.)That the purpose for which the

additional funds are needed is as

follows:

STREETLIGHT MAINTENANCE

2.) That the approximate amount for

said purpose for each year is:

$6,761.00

3.) That the total approximate amount

for said purpose: $33,805.00 Grand

Total for Levy Term

4.) That the separate and aggregate

assessed valuation of each class of

taxable property within the Town of

Cairo is as follows:

Class II: $2,109,140

Class IV: $1,850,398

5.)That the proposed additional rate
of levy in cents per one hundred
dollars of assessed valuation on

each class of property is as follows:

Class II: 12.50 Cents

Class IV: 25 Cents

6.)That the proposed years to which

the additional levy shall apply are

the fiscal years beginning July 1,

2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.

7.)That the Council will not issue

bonds upon approval of the

proposed levy.

8.)That the question of such additional

levy shall be submitted to a vote at

a Special Election to be held on the

10th day of February, 2015.

9.)That notice of such election shall be

given by publication of this order at

least once each week for two

successive weeks before said

election in two newspapers of

opposite politics and for general

circulation in the territory in which

the election is held.  If there is only

one newspaper published in

the county, said publication shall

be made therein.  All provisions of

the laws concerning general

elections shall apply as far as they

are practicable, except that a

separate ballot shall be used at

such election when held in

connection with any other election.

10.)That the ballot be used in the

following form:

OFFICIAL LEVY BALLOT

“Special Election to authorize levies for the fiscal years beginning July 1, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and the purpose of MAINTAINING STREETLIGHTS according to the order of the Cairo Town Council entered on the 2nd day of December, 2014.”

“The additional levy shall be on Class II property 12.50 Cents per $100 of assessment, Class IV property 25 Cents per $100 of assessment.”

Levy revenue exceeding may be expended under the line items of the Special Levy as determined by the Council of the Town of Cairo:

(  ) AGAINST THE LEVY

Instructions to voters: Those favoring the additional levy will place an “X” in the square before FOR THE LEVY; those against the levy will place an “X” in the square before AGAINST THE LEVY.
