NOTICE OF CITY OF CHARLES TOWN ELECTION
Notice is hereby given that there will be an election held in the City of Charles Town, West Virginia, on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at the Charles Town City Hall located at 101 E. Washington Street, with poll opening at 6:30 a.m. and closing at 7:30 p.m. (DST) for the purposes of electing four (4) council members; their terms of office shall be for four (4) years and of the office of mayor; his or her term of office shall be for four (4) years. The filing period for candidates shall commence on January 9, 2017 and end January 28, 2017. Certificates of Announcement may be obtained at the office of the City Clerk of the City of Charles Town at 101 East Washington Street, Charles Town, WV. There is a filing fee equivalent to one percent of the annual salary associated with the position sought ($24.00 for City Council member and $48.00 for Mayor). Candidates must file to have name printed on ballot with the City Clerk, no later than January 28, 2017 and if mailed, must be postmarked prior to midnight. Official write-in candidates must file a certificate of announcement forty-two (42) days before the general election in order to have their votes counted.
