PUBLIC NOTICE

PUBLIC NOTICE WVAW-Fayetteville CSO Class III Legal Advertisement West Virginia American Water owns and operates the wastewater system for the town of Fayetteville, in Fayette County, West Virginia, under NPDES permit number WV0022314. This system is classified as a combined sewer overflow community (CSO community). During precipitation events (i.e. rainfall and snow melt), the hydraulic capacity of the wastewater plant, lift stations, and even collection lines can be exceeded. To alleviate the hydraulic loading on the wastewater system, permitted relief points were designed into the system to allow excess wastewater combined with storm water to flow from the system and into the receiving stream. These relief points have been labeled “combined sewer overflows (CSOs).” West Virginia American Water’s Fayetteville wastewater system contains two (2) CSOs at the following locations: CSO Outlet #002 – Latitude 38 f03’54” Longitude 81 f06’08” – discharging to Marr Branch, a tributary of the New River; and CSO Outlet #003 – Latitude 38 f03’10” Longitude 81 f05’48” – discharging to House Branch, a tributary of Wolfe Creek, which in turn is a tributary of the New River. Signs are posted at each of these locations to inform the general public of the existence of these overflows and provide information about potential health risks during active overflow events. During these active overflow events, the potential exists for elevated levels of pollutants to enter the receiving streams at these locations. These pollutants may include potentially harmful bacteria. 5-5-THR-3-FT; LG 223
