The City of Nitro, West Virginia has prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA) to analyze the impacts of constructing a new city park to be located on Route 25 in Putnam County, West Virginia. The proposed site is located in front of the McDonalds Restaurant in downtown Nitro. The 30-day review period begins May 20, 2020 and ends June 19, 2020. The Proposed Action includes creating a park that functions as both an interactive space and a gateway landmark to be seen from the road. A Doughboy Statue will be the main focal point with five pillars representing the military branches. Pavers and combination seating / table spaces will become opportunities for social existence. Landscape lighting will allow visitors to experience the space at night The new public space will attract visitors to the downtown area of Nitro. During the 30-day review period, the City of Nitro welcomes the submission of any comments, data, or information related potential issues, impacts and alternatives that should be addressed in the EA. The deadline for comments related to this proposed action is June 19, 2020. Original documents can be viewed at City Hall between the hours of 8:30 to 4:00, Monday through Friday.
