PUBLIC NOTICE
Notice is hereby given that open competitive entrance examination for the purpose of establishing an (eligibility list) for the position listed below will be held in accordance with the laws of the State of Ohio and the Rules of the Municipal Civil Service Commission of the City of Toronto.
Persons desiring to take the examination must have the following qualifications as of the examination date: APPLICANT MUST BE A MINIMUM 21 YEARS OF AGE AT THE TIME OF EXAMINATION AND NOT YET 35 YEARS OF AGE AT THE TIME OF APPOINTMENT, SHALL BE AN AMERICAN CITIZEN, SHALL NOT HAVE BEEN CONVICTED OF A FELONY NOR FIRED WITHIN THE LAST 5 YEARS, SHALL NOT HAVE FILED BANKRUPTCY, HAVE CREDIT PROBLEMS OR CIVIL JUDGMENTS AGAINST THEM, SHALL BE A HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE OR HOLD A G.E.D. EQUIVALENT CERTIFICATE, MUST HAVE COMPLETED THE OHIO PEACE OFFICER TRAINING ACADEMY (OPOTA) , AND SHALL HOLD ONE OF THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred, or Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or related field of study with 6 months of full-time police experience. Applicants must submit a copy of Drivers License and certificates at time of filing application.
Blank applications may be secured at the Toronto Police Department Monday through Friday between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Only official applications will be accepted by the Commission and must be registered at the Toronto Police Department. Applications must be obtained in person, filled out in ink and be in the applicant’s own handwriting. This application must be notarized before filing. No applications by Mail, Fax, or E-Mail. Veterans who desire the additional credit provided by law must present a copy of their honorary discharge papers at time of examination.
Starting wage (probationary for one (1) year) $17.50/hr., $38,335.30 salary. After one (1) year wage $19.45/hr., $42,594.78/salary. Also, health benefits, uniform allowance, paid vacation and sick days, hazardous duty, education, holiday pay.

A NON-REFUNDABLE filing fee of $25.00 will be charged each applicant upon filing the application. Only Money Order or Certified Bank Check (made payable to City of Toronto) will be accepted at time of filing.
Applicants are hereby advised that employment resulting from this test may be full-time or part-time at the discretion of the appointing authority, and eligible applicants must pass psychological examination and physical agility test, must submit to truth verification, and background investigation, must pass medical examination including drug testing, and wages are subject to such full or part-time employment, and any probationary period required. Any person hired as a result of this examination will be under Civil Service Status.
