ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS John Carver House Masonry RFQ Bids for the John Carver House Masonry rehabilitation and repair will be received by Angela Gould, 1516 Kanawha Blvd East, Charleston, WV 25311 before or on 5pm on January 14th, 2022, via in-person submission or by email at [email protected]. The Work to be bid upon is described in the Scope of Work outlined in the Specifications document and is generally as follows: Repair and point the five chimneys using appropriate mortar and bricks. 100% repointing of each chimney and may include unstacking and restacking. Mortar will match the existing in color, composition, appearance, strength and joint profile. The current mortar is tinted red and this will be retained. A sample patch must be provided based on a historical analysis. The new recipe must be approved by the grant monitor prior to installation. Care will be taken to protect the existing slate tile roof and gutters to keep clean and protect debris from going into downspouts. Pointing brick mortar on the entire exterior of the home where mortar is missing or loose after pressure washing. Pointing stone on the entire exterior of the house where mortar is missing or loose after pressure washing. As with the brick, materials and supplies appropriate for the historic nature of the home are required with a consistent color and texture. The contractor must carry out the described work in compliance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. All work is to be conducted in a professional manner with a warranty. All job-related debris will be disposed of by the contractor and contractor must be appropriately insured for the nature of the work and have a valid license. All necessary approvals by the State Historic Preservation Office, City of Charleston and historic preservation groups will be obtained by the contractor.
