NOTICE OF ETC STATUS
On February 8, 2021, Citynet West Virginia, LLC, a public telecommunications utility, applied to the Public Service Commission, pursuant to Section 214(e)(2) of the Federal Telecommunications Act of 1996, as amended, for designation as an Eligible Telecommunications Carrier (ETC) in certain areas of Barbour, Calhoun, Doddridge, Gilmer, Harrison, Marion, Marshall, Monongalia, Pocahontas, Randolph, Roane, Tucker, Taylor, Tyler, Webster, Wirt, Wetzel, and Wood counties to obtain Federal Universal Service Fund (USF) support for providing certain telephony services. Citynet meets all the necessary qualifications to be designated as an ETC under the Act. The services that Citynet will offer will increase the choices available to low-income telecommunications consumers.
According to federal guidelines, a carrier seeking ETC status must advertise on a regular basis in media targeted to a general residential market throughout its service areas and in a manner substantially similar to the media that the serving incumbent local exchange carrier advertises in the particular service area.
On May 6, 2021, the Commission granted the Citynet Petition. Citynet will provide these services under its approved trade name(s).
