Notice is hereby given that South Fork Coal Company, LLC, 1295 Ashford Hill Road, Ashford, WV 25009 has submitted an application to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Division of Mining and Reclamation (DMR) located at 1159 Nick Rahall Greenway, Fayetteville, WV 25840, for an Article 3 permit for the surface disturbance of approximately 1041.94 acres in order to add 189.88 acres of additional surface mine area to the permit, within 100 feet of Greenbrier County Route 10/1, Mile 9.2 to Mine 10.0 (a public hearing may be requested), surface mining in the Beckley coal seam and auger or highwall mining as a permitted method to the Beckley coal seam, in the Sewell A, Sewell B, Sewell C and Beckley seam of coal.
The proposed operation is discharging into unnamed tributaries of/and Becky Run and unnamed tributaries of/and Blue Knob Branch of Coal Knob Fork of South Fork Cherry River; Middle Branch of Laurel Creek, with all of the Cherry River of the Gauley River of Kanawha River and is located 7.7 miles southeast of Richwood in Falling Spring District of Greenbrier County, Longitude 80° 28’ 57” and Latitude 38° 07’ 18”.

Written comments and/or requests for an informal conference of the surface mining application shall identify the applicant and application number and will be received by the Permit Supervisor at the DEP address above until June 4, 2018, or thirty (30) days from date of final publication. A copy of the application will be available for review until June 4, 2018, or thirty (30) days from date of final publication in the DEP Regional Office located at the address above AND in the Greenbrier County Clerk’s Office during normal business hours.
