Environmental Assessment

The USDA – Rural Development, Rural Utilities Service has received an application for financial assistance from the Town of Clay – Clay Municipal Water Works. As required by the National Environmental Policy Act, the Rural Utilities Service has prepared an Environmental Assessment that evaluated the potential environmental effects and consequences of the project. This notice announces the availability of the Environmental Assessment for public review and comment.
The proposed project consists of extending waterline approximately 24,050 linear feet of 8 inch and smaller, one water storage tank, one water booster stations, 51 water meters, and other related appurtenances. This project will provide water to an additional 51 customers. The Town owns their own water system, and they have enough capacity to provide water for the project. The water source for the plant is the Elk River in Clay County, WV.
This project has been approved by various Federal, State, and local government office as planned. However, if the routes or scope of work changes these agencies will be notified and give a chance to comment. Several alternatives were studied and analyzed using environmental factors and financial evaluations. It was determined that this project is needed to improve the environment of the county.
