Farm to School
Request for Proposal
Our Farm to School Program:
This is our second year of procuring locally grown vegetables and fruit. We believe in our students knowing where their food comes from and supporting the local economy with our purchasing. Our program is actively seeking local farmers to provide fresh produce. We will be serving locally grown vegetables and fruits as part of our school lunch program and summer meal program. Seasonal produce for our school lunch program would begin in April 2020 thru May 2021. We would like to serve seasonal vegetables and fruits weekly for the school year. We will be following the seasonal produce list according to the Harvest of the Month Calendar.
Specifications for products:
Twenty (20) pound box or equal container of usable product for each vegetable is preferred (except 5lb for greens). Free of dirt and spoilage Variety of sizes acceptable – prefer medium size Any changes in products or quantity need to be called in as soon as possible, (preferably 24 hours prior to delivery). For Fall, a diversity of seasonal fruits and vegetables. For Winter, a diversity of seasonal storage crops such as: parsnips, rutabagas, multi-colored carrots, turnips, beets, celeriac, winter greens For Spring crops such as: micro greens, spring greens, greenhouse products, etc. See attached vegetable and fruit listing for completion. Additional vendor requirements:
Farm of origin identification, Willingness to host farm field trips, Proof of farm or food safety plan or (GAP) certified Good Agricultural Practices, Delivery to each school (see attached school listing) , Quality customer service, including rapid return policy and responsiveness to inquiries in a timely fashion, Communicate in a timely manner via e-mail or telephone, RFP response due 2 pm March 24, 2020 to address provided or emailed.
