Opportunity to Provide Input
The USDA Forest Service, Northern Research Station, Timber & Watershed Laboratory invites your input on a proposal to implement timber harvests, prescribed fire, and apply fertilizer to continue long-term research studies on the Fernow Experimental Forest over the next ten years. The Fernow Experimental Forest is located south of Parsons in Tucker County, West Virginia.
Potential activities include: commercial timber harvest by diameter-limit harvest on 67 acres; single-tree selection on 279.5 acres; 15-35 acres of patch clearcuts (each patch is 0.4 acre) within 136 acres; and prescribed fire treatment on 398 acres. Other treatments include annual fertilization of 4 acres with ammonium sulfate fertilizer (and additions of dolomitic lime to 2 of those acres).
