Wastewater Treatment Plant
The Town of Sophia will hold a Public Meeting on its proposed Wastewater Treatment Plant in the conference room at Sophia Town Hall, 100 E. Railroad Street, prior to the Sanitary Board Meeting at 4:30p.m. on Thursday May 9th, 2024. This meeting provides an opportunity for interested persons to learn of the Board’s plans for these improvements and to ask questions or provide oral or written comments concerning those Board’s plans.
The Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) project proposes to construct a new 0.60 million gallons per day (MGD) sequencing batch reactor (SBR) WWTP at a new site located above the 100-yr floodplain. This new WWTP is of sufficient size to treat flows from existing Sophia customers and additional customers in the future. The new WWTP will consist of a chlorine/NPW building, a chlorine contact tank, two (2) SBR Basins, a Post-EQ Basin, a Digester, a Control/Lab/Sludge Dewatering Building, and a new WWTP lift station, various lengths of gravity sewer and forcemain, and all other necessary appurtenances and restorations.
This project is proposed to be funded by a combination of Clean Water State Revolving, Infrastructure and Jobs Development Council, American Rescue Plan Act, the Raleigh County Commission, and Economic Enhancement Grant funds.
Additional information and copies of an executive summary describing the planned project may be reviewed at Sohpia Town Hall at 100 E. Railroad Street, Sophia, WV between the hours of 8:00a.m. and 4:00p.m.
Attendance at this Public Meeting is not mandatory. If anyone wishes to provide a written comment, written comments will be accepted and considered in finalizing the Board’s plans for system improvements, if received in person or by mail no later than Friday, May 3rd, 2024. Written comments should be addressed to the Town of Sophia, 100 E. Railroad Street, Sophia, WV, and Attention Danny Barr, Mayor.
