NOTICE OF A PUBLIC MEETING REGARDING THE
PROPOSED TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF A SECTION OF
Greenbrier CR 39/4 AND Pocahontas CR 29/4

Greenbrier and Pocahontas Counties

An informational public meeting will be conducted by South Fork Coal Company, LLC on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at Rupert Community Center, 557 Nicholas Street, Rupert, WV 25984, regarding the proposed termporary closure of a section of Greenbrier CR 39/4 and Pocahontas 29/4, and subsequent restoration by South Fork Coal Co., LLC of the roadway near Richwood, West Virginia.

South Fork Coal Co., LLC has requested from the Division of Highways (DOH) approval to close for a period of ten (10) years an approximate 4.38-mile section of Greenbrier CR 39/4 and a 0.99-mile section of Pocahontas CR 29/4 to facilitate the company’s mining activities. After the closure period is completed, a re-establishment of existing roadway, of as good or better condition and alignment than the existing segment to be temporarily closed, will be opened to public travel along the existing alignment, and the new replacement roadway would be part of the State Highway System.

Scheduled from 6-8 pm, the meeting will afford citizens an opportunity to ask questions and provide input concerning this proposed temporary closure and re-establishment of the existing roadway. South Fork Coal Co., LLC will be present to discuss the project and receive public comments. No formal presentation will be made.

Those wishing to file written comments may send them to Greg Bailey, PE, Deputy State Highway Engineer, West Virginia Division of Highways, 1900 Kanawha Boulevard East, Building 5, Room 152, Charleston, West Virginia 25305-0430 on or before September 16, 2021.
