Notice is hereby given that Pocahontas Coal Company LLC, 109 Appalachian Drive, Beckley, WV 25801 has a permit on file with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for the surface mining of approximately 55.51 acres and has submitted an application to the DEP, 1159 Nick Rahall Greenway, Fayetteville, WV, 25840, for renewal of Article 3 Permit Number U015282 to Operate a Deep Mine in the Pocahontas No. 3 seam of coal. The operation is discharging into Unnamed Tributaries of Soak Creek and Soak Creek and Laurel Branch of Soak Creek of Piney Creek of New River; Unnamed Tributaries of Crab Orchard Creek of Piney Creek of New River; Shockley Branch of Miller Camp Branch of Marsh Fork of Coal River of Kanawha River; Old Shop Branch of Winding Gulf of Guyandotte River of of Ohio River and is located 1.0 miles, southeast of Midway in Slab Fork and Trap Hill District of Raleigh County, Longitude 81deg. 13′ 42″ and Latitude 37deg. 42′ 36″ (Coordinates from USGS Topographic Map).

Written comments and/or requests for an informal conference of the permit renewal application shall identify the applicant and application number and will be received by the Permit Supervisor at the DEP address above until January 14, 2022, or thirty (30) days from date of final publication.
