SPECIAL CANDIDATE FILING PERIOD ANNOUNCED FOR
RALEIGH COUNTY MAGISTRATE VACANCY FOR UNEXPIRED TERM

Pursuant to West Virginia Code 3-10-1, et seq., West Virginia Code 50-1-6, and West Virginia Code 59-3-1, et seq., due to a vacancy in the position of Raleigh County Magistrate, Division 2, an unexpired term for that position will be added to the November 3, 2020 General Election ballot.

Interested candidates must file a certificate of announcement with the Raleigh County Clerk’s Office, and pay thestatutory filing fee of $575.00, by no earlier than Monday, August 3, 2020 and no later than Tuesday, August 18, 2020.

Pursuant to West Virginia Code 50-1-4, the following requirements must be met in order to be a qualified candidate to file for the position of magistrate:

1. Must be at least 21 years of age as of January 1, 2021;
2. Must have a high school diploma or its equivalent;
3. Must not have been convicted of any felony or any misdemeanor involving moral turpitude;
4. Must be a resident of Raleigh County by the date of the certified election results; and
5. There may only be 1 magistrate per immediate family.
