PUBLIC NOTICE Notice is hereby given that the City of Chesapeake is partnering with the B-C-K-P Regional Intergovernmental Council (RIC) to conduct a Community Walk Audit of WV-61 on MacCorkle Avenue in the City of Chesapeake. The purpose of the audit is to evaluate the walkability and accessibility of WV-61 in the City of Chesapeake as a part of the city’s public involvement efforts for the development of an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan. The ADA is a civil rights law prohibiting the discrimination against individuals based on disability. It was enacted on July 26, 1990 and was amended in 2008 with the ADA Amendments Act. Title II of ADA pertains to the programs, activities, and services provide by public entities. As a public entity, the City of Chesapeake must comply with this section of the ADA. (42 USC Sec. 12132; 28 CFR Sec. 35.130) The City of Chesapeake’s Community Walk Audit serves as a public self-evaluation tool to develop an ADA Transition Plan, that seeks to bring all public programs, services, buildings, property, and public-rights-of-way within compliance of accessibility requirements created by the ADA. (28 CFR Part 35 Sc. 35.105 and Sec. 35.150) Any interested or affected members of the public of all ages and abilities are invited to attend the City of Chesapeake’s Community Walk Audit.
