PUBLIC NOTICE The U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration (EDA) is considering a request for Federal assistance from Coalfield Development Corporation to restore the Nenni Building in Matewan, Mingo County, WV. Pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), EDA is conducting an assessment of the potential of the proposed project to affect the environment and/or historic properties. Notice is hereby given that the project is proposed to be located in, or may affect, a floodplain and/or wetland as defined by Executive Order (EO) 11988 and/or EO 11990. The project, Restoring the Nenni Building: Preserving the Past and Creating a Pathway for New Jobs in Historic Matewan, WV will be located at 75′ x 60′ x 75′ x 50′ part of Lot No. Eighteen (18), being a parcel containing three brick buildings (now known as the Nenni Department Store(formerly Schaeffer Brothers and Green Building) and McKenzie Building now Rainbow Grill); said Lot No. (18) being shown and designated upon the official map of the Town of Matewan, made by Erakine E. Hazard of record in the Office of the Clerk of the County Commission of Mingo County, West Virginia. Tax Parcel 73, Tax Map 1, Town of Matewan District (08). The project will focus on stabilizing the structure, remediating potential contaminants, and building out the first floor to house social enterprises of Coalfield Development.
