EARLY PUBLIC NOTICE Proposed Activity in a Floodplain Date: 03/04/2026 To: All Interested Agencies, Organizations, and Individuals This notice is to inform the public that Darrell Helton is evaluating a proposal to conduct work within a designated floodplain. The proposed activity involves placement of fill material in the left descending floodplain of the Tugfork at 3120 State Hwy 292 East, Belfry, KY 41514. The involved area is approximately 100′ running with the roadway and 60′ wide running from edge of road toward the river. The purpose of this notice is to provide early information about the project and to invite public input regarding potential effects on the floodplain and surrounding environment. The project area encompasses approximately 0.13 acres of mapped floodplain, as identified by the Floodplain Coordinator of Pike County. Filling in a floodplain can alter natural flood storage capacity, affect water quality, and impact habitat for fish and wildlife. Before any decision is made, alternatives to the proposed action and possible mitigation measures will be evaluated to minimize adverse effects.
