NOTICE The Monongahela Power Company and the Potomac Edison Power Company (“Companies”) have submitted a feasibility study to the West Virginia Broadband Enhancement Council (“Council”) pursuant to West Virginia Code Sec. 31G-4-5, consisting of three proposed projects to construct and operate middle-mile broadband infrastructure expansion projects in portions of Roane, Calhoun, Gilmer, Braxton, Clay, Nicholas, Webster, Randolph, Barbour, and Pocahontas Counties, WV, which are within the Companies’ West Virginia electric service territory. Depending upon responses from internet service providers when requests for proposals are issued, awarding of grant funding by federal agencies, and other changing circumstances, the three projects may all be constructed and all looped together, or more limited segments of the projects may be constructed. The Companies have requested that the Council provide flexibility to the Companies to adjust the three projects to alter the timeline and project implementation as circumstances develop. The feasibility study is available for review on the Council’s website at https://broadband.wv.gov. In its consideration of the feasibility study, the Council is obligated to identify one or more last-mile broadband internet providers that may lease the middle-mile broadband internet capacity created by the proposed project pursuant to lease terms and conditions set by the Council. The Council will consider the feasibility study and any public comments upon that study at its July 16, 2020 meeting to be held by conference call. The Council is required to take final action on the feasibility study no later than August 3, 2020.
