CHARLESTON FIRE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION The Charleston Fire Civil Service Commission will begin testing of applicants for probationary firefighters to establish a list of eligibles for the Charleston Fire Department. Applicants must be US citizens, be between the ages of 18 and 35 at time of application, possess a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a background investigation. Armed Forces veterans may apply up to age 40. Applicants from other West Virginia paid fire departments that participate in the Municipal Police Officers and Firefighters Retirement System have no age restriction. Applications are available at the CFD Administrative Offices located at 808 Virginia Street West, the Charleston City Clerk’s Office in City Hall, and the Fire Dept website: http://www.charlestonfire.org/site/category/employment/. Applications must be returned to the CFD Administrative Office or City Clerk’s Office, 501 Virginia Street East 3rd floor, Charleston, WV 25301, no later than 4:00 p.m. on Nov. 22, 2021. Written tests will be administered by the Civil Service Commission on Dec. 2, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center. Applicants must achieve a passing score on the written exam to be eligible to take the Candidate Physical Ability Test (“CPAT”) which is pass/fail. Only those applicants that pass both exams will be considered for employment. There will be study classes offered in order to assist candidates in preparing for the written examination.
