NOTICE OF PROPOSED ADOPTION OF ORDINANCE RAISING REVENUE
CORPORATION OF HARPERS FERRY, WEST VIRGINIA
In accordance with Chapter 8, Article 11, Section 4(a)(2) of the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, the Corporation of Harpers Ferry hereby gives notice that it proposes to enact an ordinance the principal object of which is the raising of revenue for the municipality. The title of the proposed ordinance is “An ordinance to reduce certain rates of municipal Business and Occupation taxes; to reduce the Room Occupancy Tax; and to enact a Municipal Sales and Use Tax.” The subject matter of the ordinance is to reduce the Municipal Business & Occupation Tax rate for the amusements category from 0.50{4ceb532c6f579389df471c6c1e832caf2346b74dc60fcbf6aabd4d29df3baf9c} to 0.40{4ceb532c6f579389df471c6c1e832caf2346b74dc60fcbf6aabd4d29df3baf9c}; to raise the threshold for imposition of the Municipal Business & Occupation Tax from $4,000 of gross income to $10,000 of gross income; to reduce the municipal Room Occupancy Tax from 6{4ceb532c6f579389df471c6c1e832caf2346b74dc60fcbf6aabd4d29df3baf9c} to 5{4ceb532c6f579389df471c6c1e832caf2346b74dc60fcbf6aabd4d29df3baf9c}; and to enact a Municipal Sales & Use Tax of 1{4ceb532c6f579389df471c6c1e832caf2346b74dc60fcbf6aabd4d29df3baf9c} in accordance with Harpers Ferry’s Home Rule Plan.
The Town Council of the Corporation of Harpers Ferry proposes to take a final vote on the adoption of this ordinance during its regular meeting at 7:00 PM on Monday, December 14, 2015 to be held at Harpers Ferry Town Hall, 1000 Washington St., Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Interested parties may appear at this meeting and be heard with respect to the proposed ordinance.
Copies of the proposed ordinance will be available at Harpers Ferry Town Hall, 1000 Washington Street, Harpers Ferry, West Virginia for public inspection during posted normal business hours.
