Petition for expedited action granting expanded eligible telecommunications carrier status.
NOTICE OF ETC STATUS
On December 14, 2018, Hardy Telecommunications, Inc. (Hardy), a public telecommunications utility, applied to the Public Service Commission, pursuant to Section 214(e)(2) of the federal Telecommunications Act of 1996, as amended, for designation as an Eligible Telecommunications Carrier (ETC) in additional areas of West Virginia to obtain federal universal service fund (USF) support for providing certain telephony services. Hardy meets all the necessary qualifications to expand its ETC designation under the Act. The services that Hardy will offer will increase the choices available to low-income telecommunications consumers.
According to federal guidelines, a carrier seeking ETC status must advertise on a regular basis in media targeted to a general residential market throughout its service areas and in a manner substantially similar to the media that the serving incumbent local exchange carrier advertises in the particular service area.
On January 31, 2019, the Commission granted the Hardy Petition. Hardy will provide these services under its approved trade name(s).
This notice is being provided in accordance with Commission requirements and is not for the purpose of seeking public comment or protest.
