Public Meeting Notice

West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection
601 57th Street
Charleston, WV 25304

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) announces a comment period on draft Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) for selected streams in the Warm Spring Run and Rockymarsh Run watersheds, both part of the Potomac Direct Drains. The comment period begins August 26, 2016 and extends through September 26, 2016.

A Total Maximum Daily Load is a plan of action used to clean up streams not meeting water quality standards. Each of the streams under TMDL development has been identified as violating state water quality standards and the federal Clean Water Act requires TMDL development.  The pollutant of concern is fecal coliform bacteria.  After consideration of public comments, DEP will make appropriate revisions and submit final draft TMDLs to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for approval.

Two public meetings are scheduled in the watershed to present a general discussion of the TMDL development process and to answer questions regarding the proposed TMDLs.

The Rockymarsh Run public meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. on September 6, 2016 at the Freshwater Institute, 1098 Turner Road, Shepherdstown, WV 25443.

The Warm Spring Run public meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. on September 7, 2016 at the Town of Bath, 271 Wilkes Street, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.

The DEP invites public comment on all aspects of the draft TMDLs.  Written comments may be submitted by U.S. Mail, electronic mail, and fax. The preferred form for comment submissions is e-mail or disk in order to expedite the review and response process. Written comments should be postmarked no later than September 26, 2016. Comments should be sent to:
