PROBATIONARY
POLICE PATROL
OFFICER –
City of Weirton,
West Virginia
The City of Weirton Police Civil Service Commission will be conducting a Probationary Police Patrol Officer Exam.
Applications for the position of Probationary Police Patrol Officer will begin on Monday, May 22, 2023, and must be submitted no later than Friday, July 14, 2023, at 4:00 p.m.
The Physical Agility Exam portion of the testing will be given on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Weir High School, 200 Red Rider Road, Weirton, WV 26062. Registration begins promptly at 8:30 a.m., and the Physical Agility Exam begins at 9:00 a.m. All applicants participating in the Physical Agility Exam portion must be present on July 15, 2023. THERE WILL BE NO MAKE-UP EXAMS.
Applicants who pass the Physical Agility Exam will move on to the Written Exam. The Written Exam portion of the testing will be conducted on Friday, July 28, 2023. Registration begins promptly at 8:30 a.m. at the Millsop Community Center, 3420 Main Street, Weirton, WV 26062. THERE WILL BE NO MAKE-UP EXAMS.
Minimum starting salary is $25.21 per hour, including health and other supplemental benefits. The Police Civil Service Commission will award preference points to veterans and/or candidates with prior police experience. Certified documentation will need to be provided.
Candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 40 at the time of application, and are not required to live within City limits.
West Virginia Certified Law Enforcement Officers: Applicants who are already West Virginia Certified Law Enforcement Officers in Good Standing with a Current Certification (documentation required):
a) Will not be required to take the physical agility exam
b) Will be given three personal days
c) Applicants who sign a two-year contract will receive a $5,000 sign-on bonus that will be paid over the course of a two-year contract period
Applications will be available beginning Monday, May 22, 2023, at the City Clerk’s office, Weirton Municipal Building, Room 102, 200 Municipal Plaza, Weirton, WV 26062, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding any holidays). Please contact the Clerk’s office at

to print an application. The completed application, including the Physical Examination form included in the packet signed by a medical provider, needs to be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office by the deadline of Friday, July 14, 2023.
