City of Wheeling, West Virginia Notice of Public Comment for FY24 Application to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Brownfield Cleanup Grant program.
A fourteen (14) day public examination period will begin on October 24, and end on November 7, 2023. The City of Wheeling is seeking public comment and input on its draft FY24 Brownfield Cleanup Grant application to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, including the Analysis of Brownfield Grant Alternatives (ABCA). Comments are sought to address the receipt of funding to conduct environmental remediation for the Clay School site at 131 15th Street, a 140,511 square foot, four-story former public school in the East Wheeling Historic District, which the city owns. This grant must be used to carry out cleanup activities on brownfield sites, defined in CERCLA Section 101(39) as property, the expansion redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of hazardous substances pollutants, contaminants, controlled substances, petroleum or petroleum products, or is mine-scarred land.
The City of Wheeling will conduct a PUBLIC MEETING on November 7, 2023 at 5:30 p.m. This meeting will be held at the start of the regularly scheduled City Council Meeting at 1500 Chapline Street in Council Chambers.
