LEGAL NOTICE
Public Notice is hereby given that on the 22nd day of May 2024, in Weirton, Hancock County, West Virginia, a competitive examination for the position of Deputy Sheriff for the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department will be held.
This competitive examination will be practical in character and will relate to such matters and include such inquiries as will fairly and fully test the competitive merit and fitness of the persons examined to discharge the duties of deputy sheriff. Applications can be obtained at the County Clerk’s Office beginning 1st day of March 2024. Applicants will not be accepted for the examination unless they possess education, training, or experience equivalent to that represented by graduation from a standard high school. All applicants applying for admission to said competitive examination may obtain formal application blanks in the Office of the Clerk of the County Commission of Hancock County, West Virginia, in the Courthouse in New Cumberland, West Virginia, the County Clerk being the Clerk of this Commission, and must complete and file same with this County Clerk not later than the 1st day of April 2024, by 4:30 p.m. All applicants for appointment as Deputy Sheriff, who pass this competitive examination, before being appointed, must undergo a medical examination, a psychological evaluation and pass the LETC physical agility test.
Any applicant who is a certified West Virginia Police Officer will be awarded five (5) additional points to his/her passing score and will be required to present certification upon request.
Any applicant who is a Veteran with an Honorable Discharge for service in the Armed Forces of the United States, shall be awarded five (5) additional points to his/her passing score and will be required to file a copy of his/her DD-214 with the application.
No application for appointment will be received if the person applying is less than eighteen (18) years of age at the date of application.
