The following has applied to the West Virginia Department of Environmental
Protection for a solid waste permit renewal:

Location:        Located 2 miles north of Romney, WV on WV Route 28

Activity:        Sanitary Landfill (Closed)
Transfer Station (Operational)

The Hampshire County Landfill is closed and does not receive any waste.  However, the applicant may receive a maximum of 9,999 tons monthly of the following types of waste:  municipal solid waste including paper, glass, metal, yard waste, food waste, construction/demolition, and other acceptable waste at the Romney Transfer Station.

The solid waste accepted by the transfer station will originate from Mineral County and Hampshire County.

The center of the site is 39° 21’ 44” N latitude and 78° 44’ 46” W longitude.  Storm water discharge point, Outlet 001, is located at 39° 21’ 40” N latitude and 78° 44’ 50” W longitude; it will discharge treated storm water into an unnamed tributary of Big Run, 0.59 miles from the mouth.  Storm water discharge point, Outlet 002, is located at 39° 21’ 48” N latitude and 78° 44’ 39” W longitude; it will discharge treated storm water into an unnamed tributary of the South Branch of the Potomac River, 0.44 miles from the mouth.

On the basis of review of the application, the Solid Waste Management Act, Chapter 22, Article 15, Section 5(b) and 5(c), and 33CSR1 West Virginia Solid Waste Management Rule, the State of West Virginia will act on the above application.

Interested persons may submit written comments during the 30-day public comment period, which begins on August 9, 2017 and ends on September 11, 2017, to the following address:

Comments received within this time period will be considered prior to any state action on the subject application.  Correspondence should include the name, address, and telephone number of the writer and a concise statement of the nature of the issues addressed.

A public hearing may be held if the state identifies a significant degree of public interest on issues relevant to the permit application.  To obtain further information concerning the subject application, or to request a public hearing, interested persons may contact the Division of Water and Waste Management during the public comment period at the above address.
