NOTICE OF PROPOSED CONVEYANCE OF UNITED METHODIST CHURCH PROPERTY (FRENCH CREEK UNITED METHODIST CHURCH) Notice is hereby given that Board of Trustees of the West Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church will, on or after August 6, 2025 QUITCLAIM, GRANT and CONVEY to Sharon M. Cain, all of their right, title and interest, in and to the following tracks or parcels of land, situate in village of French Creek, Meade District, Upshur County, West Virginia, and more particularly described as follows: TRACK ONE A LOT in the village of French Creek, and bounded as follows, on East by centre of Buckhannon Road, on South by M. E. Church lot, on West by centre of Slab Camp Road, and on the North by the Upshur Telephone Cos. Switch board lot, and E. J. Smallridge lot. And being the same property conveyed from W. B. Phillips and Victoria Phillips his wife to Trustees of the French Creek M. E. Church by Deed dated November 25, 1925 and recorded in the Office of the Clerk of the County Commission of Upshur County, West Virginia in Deed Book 79, at Page 576, reference which is hereby made. TRACT TWO FIRST PARCEL: A certain lot situate in the Village of French Creek abutting on the bank of French Creek for 20 feet, and extending back therefrom with that width a distance of 70 feet being bounded on the South by the premises of the M. E. Church and on the North by the lands of Elsworth Loudin and the rear by lands of Everett Smal1ridge. SECOND PARCEL: A certain lot in the Village of French Creek and lying between the Switch-board, or Upshur County Telephone Co. lot and the center of the Buckhannon Road and is bounded on the North and South by a continuation of the North and South lines of the telephone company’s lot and said lines continuing to the center of the Buckhannon Road, the lines bounding the telephone company lot said y j. 8. Bunton, October 7, 1882, were North side S. 84 1/2 W. now 86 1/2 W. by reasons of compass variations and the line on the, South side parallel to the North line and 20 feet from it. Excepting and reserving from the above two tracts a parcel containing 1,000 square feet conveyed by E. J. and Jane Smallridge to the State Road Commission by Deed dated October 30, 1958 and recorded in the aforesaid Clerk’s Office in Deed Book 162, at Page 413. And being the same property conveyed from E. J. Smallridge and Jane Smallridge, his wife to Trustees of the French Creek Methodist Church of French Creek by Deed dated September 20, 1961 and recorded in the aforesaid Clerk’s Office in Deed Book 172, at Page 525, reference which is hereby made. TRACT THREE BEGINNING at a stake near the southeast corner of the M. E. Church and running thence S. 12º E. 4-3/4 poles to a small sycamore; thence S. 57º W. 4 poles to a stake in road; thence N. 13-1/2º W. 6-1/2 poles to stake, corner of said Church lot; thence N. 87º E. 4 poles to the beginning, containing 20 square poles. And being the same property conveyed from Ira Tomblyn and Mildred N. Tomblyn, each in their own right and as Husband and Wife, to Trustees of the French Creek Methodist Church at French Creek by Deed dated March 18, 1968 and recorded in the aforesaid Clerk’s Office in Deed Book 172, at Page 525, reference which is hereby made. TRACT FOUR BEGINNING at a Sycamore stump on the banks of French Creek, thence North 40 feet to the abutment of a wall; thence East 2 poles to a stone in the middle of the road; thence South 40 feet to a stake in the road; thence West 2 poles to the beginning, containing 4-1/2 poles, more or less. And being the same property conveyed from County Commission of Upshur County, a statutory corporation to Trustees of the French Creek Methodist Church by Deed dated May 18, 1979 and recorded in the aforesaid Clerk’s Office in Deed Book 286, at Page 185, reference which is hereby made. TRACT FIVE PARCEL ONE: Beginning at a stake on the west side of the Slab Camp Road 27.5 feet from the northeast corner of the ‘Saddle Shop” building; thence parallel to the north end of said shop to a point in French Creek, A. L. Phillips’ line; thence with Phillips’ line to the right of way of State Highway Route No. 20 thence following State Highway Route No. 20 to the Slab Camp Road; and thence following Slab Camp Road to the place of beginning, which said lot. PARCEL TWO: Beginning at the road, and running thence S. 27.5 E. 4-17/25 poles to a stake; thence N. 86-1/1 E. 6.5 poles to a stake; thence N. 59.5º E. 1.5 poles to an oak; thence N. 25 E. 4 poles to a white oak; thence N. 760 W. 9-17/25 poles to a sycamore; thence S. 33.5 N. 3.5 poles to the beginning, containing 58 square poles, more or less. Excepting and reserving, however, a portion of Parcel No. 2 which is described as follows: “BEGINNING at a stake on the west side of the Slab Camp Road 17.5 feet from the northeast corner of the Saddle Shop” building; thence parallel to the north end of said shop to a point in French Creek, A. L. Phillips line; thence with Phillips line to the right of way of State Highway Route No. 20; thence following State Highway Route No. 20 to the Slab Camp Road to the place of beginning, which said 1t includes all of what is known as the Saddle Shop lot and 27.5 feet in addition. And being the same property conveyed from John W. Carr, Jr., a married person living separate and apart from his wife, to Trustees of the French Creek United Methodist Church by Deed dated April 20, 1988 and recorded in the aforesaid Clerk’s Office in Deed Book 286, at Page 185, reference which is hereby made. Said French Creek United Methodist Church was closed effective November 14, 2024 by resolution of a majority of the District Superintendents of the West Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
