ADVERTISMENT FOR LETTERS OF INTEREST
OPEN POISITION: MARSHALL COUNTY ASSESSOR
On November 5, 2025, Eric B. Buzzard submitted his resignation as the Assessor of Marshall County, WV, as part of a criminal case plea agreement #25-F-63 accepted by Second Judicial Circuit Judge Jeffrey D. Cramer.
Pursuant to WV Code 3-10-8: Vacancies in offices of prosecuting attorney, sheriff, assessor, and surveyor., the Marshall County Commission has thirty (30) days from the day of vacancy to fill this position.
The Commission is accepting letters of interest from residents of Marshall County who would like to be considered for the appointment.
Eligibility Requirements include:
1. Must be a resident of Marshall County
2. Must be a legally qualified, registered voter in WV
3. Must be a registered Republican prior to November 4, 2024 (one year before vacancy) and continuously until the appointment

Letters of interest must be received on or before November 21, 2025. A final appointment will be made on or before December 5, 2025. This position will be on the May & November 2026 ballot. The elected Assessor will fill the unexpired term through December 31, 2028.
Pursuant to WV Code 3-10-1(2) Elections to fill vacancies. If the vacancy occurs on or before the primary cutoff date, then the office shall be filled at the following regular primary and subsequent general election pursuant to this article and the appointee shall hold the office until a qualified replacement is elected and certified at that general election. The elected replacement shall hold the office until the end of the original term of office.
