NOTICE OF PROPOSED CONVEYANCE
OF UNITED METHODIST CHURCH PROPERTY
(ST. JAMES UNITED METHODIST CHURCH)
Notice is hereby given that Board of Trustees of the
West Virginia Annual Conference of the United
Methodist Church will, on or after December 17, 2025
QUITCLAIM, GRANT and CONVEY to Diversified
Property Management, LLC , all of their right, title
and interest in and to the following described lots or
parcels of land, lying in Smithfield Corp. District, Wetzel
County, West Virginia, and bounded and described as
follows, to-wit:
PARCEL ONE
BEGINNING at a point formed by the intersection of
Main Street (sometimes referred to as Wallace Road)
and Smith Avenue (sometimes referred to as
Mannington Road); thence North 66 East 75 feet along
the Southern line of Smith Avenue and parallel to the
Northern face of the masonry foundation to the
Northeast corner of said foundation; thence South 24
East 32 feet to the Southeast corner of said foundation;
thence South l5 1/2 East 2 feet; thence along the line
parallel with and 2 feet distant from the Southeast wall
of the foundation, the distance of 80 feet more or less to the Eastern line of Main Street; thence North 13. West
34 feet more or less to the point of beginning.
And being the same property conveyed to Trustees of
Methodist Church of Smithfield, West Virginia, from
Robert A. Smith and Cornelia E. Smith,his wife by Deed
dated April 22, 1946 and recorded in the Office of the
Clerk of the County Commission of Wetzel County,
West Virginia in Deed Book 169, at page 195, reference
to which is hereby made.
PARCEL TWO
PARCEL NO. 1 : Beginning at a point on the south line
of Smith Avenue (sometimes referred to as Mannington
Road) nine (9′) feet east of the northeast corner of the
foundation of the property sold by the heirs of H. L.
Smith to the Trustees of the Methodist Church of
Smithfield, West Virginia, by deed dated April 22, 1946;
thence along Smith Avenue (Mannington Road) S. 66
degrees W. nine (9′) feet to the corner of foundation
above referred to, which said point is north 66 deg. E.
75 feet from intersection of the Southern line of Smith
Avenue (or Mannington Road) and the East line of Main
Street (sometimes called Wallace Road); thence
S. 24 deg. E. 32 feet to southeast corner of foundation,
thence S. l5 1/2 deg. E. 2 feet, thence South 66 deg.
West 82 feet to post on east line of Main Street (or
Wallace Road); thence with the East line of Main Street
(Wallace Road) S. 11 1/2 deg. E. 81 feet to post,
northwest corner of land of Elza Anderson; thence along
line of Elza Anderson North 73 1/2 deg. East 98 feet to
a point in the line of H. L. Smith heirs’ property leased to
South Penn Natural Gas Company, being also in the
line of Elza Anderson’s lot, thence with the Smith
property N. 17 1/2 deg. West 124.7 feet to the point of
beginning, containing 0.19 acre, more or less.
PARCEL NO. 2 : Beginning at a point in the South line
of Smith Avenue (or Mannington Road) N. 66 deg. E. 84
feet from the intersection of the South line of Smith
Avenue (Mannington Road) with the East line of Main
Street (Wallace Road), said point being the beginning
point of Parcel No.1, thence along the east line of Parcel
No. 1 South 17 1/2 deg. East and beyond the southeast
corner of Parcel No. 1, 141.7 feet to the actual
beginning point of property herein conveyed. Thence
along Elza Anderson property South 10 deg. East 108
feet to stake in Creek, the southeast corner of Elza
Anderson property; thence along Creek North 22 1/4
deg. East 24 feet to a new corner in the property of H. L.
Smith heirs; thence a new line North 17 1/2 deg. West
88 feet to the beginning, containing 0.016 acre, more or
less.
And being the same property conveyed to Trustees of
Methodist Church of Smithfield, West Virginia, from
Ernle G. Smith and Lucile T. Smith, his wife; Mary
Hawes Smith, widow and sole devisee of H. Laurie
Smith; M. L. Walker Smith, unmarried; and Mary W.
Smith Mastin, unmarried, each of them by Marion D.
Smith, their true and lawful attorney in fact, and
Marion D. Smith, unmarried, in her own right, by
Deed dated February 5, 1948 and recorded in the
aforesaid Clerk’s Office in Deed Book 176, at page 119,
reference to which is hereby made.
Said St. James United Methodist Church was closed
effective April 30, 2025 by resolution of a majority of the
District Superintendents of the West Virginia Annual
Conference of The United Methodist Church.
