TAYLOR COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT NOTICE OF CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION The Taylor County Deputy Sheriff’s Civil Service Commission will be conducting competitive examination testing for entry-level Deputy Sheriff position(s). The test will be given at the Taylor County Courthouse Annex 2 Building on 01-30-2026 at 6 PM. AGE: All applicants shall be at least 18 years of age. MILITARY/LAW ENFORCEMENT: Any Applicant seeking preference as a veteran or as a certified West Virginia police officer must submit proof of military service (Form DD-214), and or evidence of their current law enforcement certification on or before the time of the examination. EDUCATION: All applicants must have a High School education or a GED and provide documentation of their education. PAY: Is based on the division of the law enforcement branch of the Taylor County Sheriff’s Department for which the applicant is hired. There is a one-year probation period. VACATION AND SICK LEAVE: Annual vacation is based on months worked, and sick leave is granted by Chapter 7 of the WV State Code. Retirement: Deputy Sheriff’s Retirement will be provided. All applicants must pass an Agility Test & Pre-Employment Drug Testing. All applicants must present a medical clearance and a physician-signed release of liability before being admitted to the physical agility test. All applicants are subject to a background check, polygraph examination, and psychological evaluation. SALARY: The Minimum starting salary is $40,500 for an entry-level non-certified officer and $48,500 for a certified officer, plus a $5,000 sign-on bonus. Sign-on bonus requires a 2-year commitment.
