PUBLIC NOTICE
The first reading of the following “Ordinance No. 2272 – An Ordinance to Amend and Re-Enact a Municipal Service Fee for the City of Weirton” as amended, took place at the Regular Meeting of Weirton City Council on Monday, March 9, 2026. The second reading is scheduled to take place on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., in the Weirton City Council Chambers, 200 Municipal Plaza, Weirton, West Virginia 26062, during the Regular Meeting of Council.
Interested parties may appear and make public comment on the ordinance at a public hearing to be held at 6:30 p.m., in the Weirton City Council Chambers. A copy of the ordinance is available for review in the Weirton City Clerk’s Office, 200 Municipal Plaza, Weirton, WV, 26062.
ORDINANCE NO. 2272
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND AND RE-ENACT A
WEIRTON MUNICIPAL SERVICE FEE
WHEREAS, on March 8, 2004 the Common Council of the City of Weirton, West Virginia, passed Ordinance 1417 establishing the Weirton Municipal Service Fee; and,
WHEREAS, Section V, Paragraph (a.) of said Ordinance 1417 states “Effective July 1, 2004, or as soon thereafter as all administrative regulations are filed and distributed to employers within the City of Weirton, there is hereby imposed a city service fee to help defray the cost of providing and maintaining City services within the City. The fee is hereby imposed upon any person who is employed within the City and meets the requirements of a user of municipal services as defined in Section III (a) of this Article. Such person or persons shall be required to pay a city service fee of Two Dollars ($2.00) PER CALENDAR WEEK”; and,
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Weirton, West Virginia has determined that it is essential to amend the fee outlined in Ordinance 1417, Section V, Paragraph (a.) to a fee of Five dollars ($5.00) PER CALENDAR WEEK; and,
WHEREAS, no individual shall pay the fee more than once for the same week of employment regardless of multiple employers; and,
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Weirton, West Virginia has determined that all other provisions of Ordinance 1417 remain in effect.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of Weirton, Brooke and Hancock Counties, West Virginia that the Weirton Municipal Service Fee as revised shall become effective on the 30th day after its second reading and passage by Council.
