Public Notice

PUBLIC ADVISORY This public advisory is to the citizens of the City of Bridgeport from the Bridgeport Utility Board. The Bridgeport Utility Board owns and operates a wastewater collection and treatment system. The collection system is a combined system, which means the sanitary sewers and several storm sewers drain into the same system. During various rain events, the amount of wastewater collected is in excess of the system’s capacity to carry and effectively treat all of the water. Because of this, the collection system is designed to relieve this excess water by way of ten (10) permitted combined sewer overflows into the local receiving streams of Simpson Creek and its tributaries. Be advised that when these combined sewer overflows are discharging, there is a potential for health risks from contact with the streams. Thus, you are advised to avoid contact with water during these overflow events. Should you have any questions regarding this advisory, please contact Jared V. Cummons at the Bridgeport Wastewater Treatment Plant at 304-842-8212 or [email protected].
