NOTICE OF PROPOSED CONVEYANCE OF UNITED METHODIST CHURCH PROPERTY (Terra Alta United Methodist Church) Notice is hereby given that the Board of Trustees of the West Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church will, on or after May 14, 2026 QUITCLAIM, GRANT and CONVEY to the Trustees of Terra Alta Community Church all of their right, title and interest in and to those certain lots or parcels of real estate situate in Terra Alta Corp., Preston County, West Virginia, described as follows: PARCEL ONE LOTS NOS. 42 & 43 and shown on the Plat of the Town of Terra Alta, Preston County, West Virginia and bounded on the North by State Street, on the West by Lot of J. S. Lakin, on the South by Washington Street and on the East by Church Street. And being the same property conveyed to the Trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Portland District (now Terra Alta, W.Va.) from William D. Mason and wife dated 1866, which Deed was recorded in Preston County, West Virginia, but was destroyed by fire March 7, 1869, and was the subject of a lost records affidavit by W. A. McGinnis recorded in the Office of the Clerk of the County Commission of Preston County, West Virginia, on December 29, 1904 in Lost Record Book, at Page 47, reference to which is hereby made. PARCEL TWO BEGINNING at a stake, the same being in the South limits of State Street and a corner to the lot of the said Grantees; thence in a westerly direction with the South limits of State Street twenty-five (25) feet to a stake; thence in a southerly direction and parallel with the line of the lot of the Grantee, known as the Methodist Parsonage to a stake in the North limits of Washington Street; thence in an easterly direction with the North limits of Washington Street twenty-five (25) feet to a stake, the same being a corner of the lot of the said Grantees; thence in a Northerly direction with the line of the said Grantees to the place of the beginning, and being a part of Lot No. 46. And being the same property conveyed from C. W. Davis and Dessie F. Davis, his wife, John Speicher and Julia A. Speicher, his wife to the Trustees for what was formerly known as the Methodist Episcopal Church of Terra Alta, West Virginia, by Deed dated April 22, 1940 and recorded in the aforesaid Clerk’s Office in Deed Book 206, at Page 83, reference to which is hereby made. PARCEL THREE BEING PART OF Lot No. 46 and all of Lot No. 47 of the town of Terra Alta, West Virginia, lying on the North side of Washington Street in the said Town and bounded on the East by other property of Terra Alta Methodist Church, on the South by Washington Street, on the West by West Street, and on the North by State Street. And being the same property conveyed from Gertrude T. Mayer to the Trustees of the Terra Alta Methodist Church, by Deed dated January 18, 1956 and recorded in the aforesaid Clerk’s Office in Deed Book 325, at Page 54, reference to which is hereby made. Said Terra Alta United Methodist Church was declared closed effective on April 9, 2025 by a majority of the District Superintendents of the West Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
