AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF TUNNELTON, WEST VIRGINIA, AMENDING AND INCREASING THE SCHEDULE OF RATES AND CHARGES FOR GARBAGE COLLECTION SERVICES FURNISHED BY THE TOWN OF TUNNELTON WHEREAS, the Town of Tunnelton provides garbage collection services to its residents in the Town of Tunnelton; and WHEREAS, the Town of Tunnelton and Sunrise Sanitation Services, Inc. entered into a Refuse Collection Agreement whereby Sunrise Sanitation collects the solid waste for the Town; and WHEREAS, Sunrise Sanitation Services, Inc. has increased the residential rate it charges the Town for collecting the solid waste of residential customers for the Town and has added a fuel surcharge; and WHEREAS, the Town is not financially capable of absorbing both Sunrise Sanitation’s rate increase and its fuel surcharge and must raise its monthly garbage rate a minimal amount for residential customers; and WHEREAS, it is the desire and intent of the Town of Tunnelton to raise the monthly garbage rate for residential customers to $23.97, an increase of $4.97 per month, and to add Sunrise Sanitation’s fuel surcharge to the customer’s monthly bill. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED AND ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TUNNELTON, AS FOLLOWS: That the residential garbage collection rate and charge of the Town of Tunnelton be amended to reflect the following new rate: ARTICLE 1: RATES $23.97 Monthly Residential customers, ordinary household garbage, per family, for weekly collection of up to six (6) 30- gallon garbage bags. A charge of One Dollar and Fifty Cents ($1.50) per garbage bag will be assessed for each bag in excess of six (6) bags per week. A charge of Ten Dollars ($10.00) will be assessed for each large item placed for collection. The extra charge shall be added to the next bill that is issued to the residential customer. $50.89 Monthly Commercial customers $43.89 Monthly Commercial customer – Frontier $119.50 Monthly 2-yard Dumpster for Apartment Complex Fuel Surcharge If Sunrise Sanitation Services, Inc. is authorized by the Public Service Commission of West Virginia to implement a Fuel Surcharge Supplement to its Tariff, Tunnelton will add the fuel surcharge amount (currently $1.64) to the customer’s monthly bill for the time period in which Sunrise is authorized to assess the Fuel Surcharge Supplement to Tunnelton. ARTICLE 2: This Ordinance shall be effective upon date of passage. Passed by Council of the Town of Tunnelton on FIRST READING on the 5th day of May, 2026.
