NOTICE BY UPSHUR COUNTY COMMISSION PROPOSED REVISION OF UPSHUR COUNTY FIRE SERVICE FEE The Upshur County Commission intends to issue an Order amending the Ordinance imposing reasonable fire service rates, fees and charges to all owners of residential buildings, residential rental buildings, commercial buildings, institutional buildings and vacant property parcels that are five acres or greater, located in the geographic areas defined as all of Upshur County excluding the area within the corporate limits of the City of Buckhannon. Said amendment, appearing on the November 3, 2026 General Election ballot, shall increase annual fire protection fee or charges as outlined below: Commercial or Institutional Buildings- increase from $50 to $70 Residential Rental Buildings- increase from $25 to $35 Residential Buildings- increase from $25 to $35 Vacant property parcels that are 5 acres or greater- increase from $5 to $7 Fees levied by this Ordinance will be distributed in equal shares to the following member departments: Adrian Volunteer Fire Department, Banks District Volunteer Fire Department, Buckhannon Volunteer Fire Department, Ellamore Volunteer Fire Department, Selbyville Volunteer Fire Department, Warren District Volunteer Fire Department, and Washington District Volunteer Fire Department. There will also be established an emergency reserve fund balance from the fees generated by this Ordinance in the amount of 10% up to a maximum of $30,000. Parties in interest may appear before the Upshur County Commission and may be heard as to whether the above-described Ordinance adopted by the Commission shall be revised as recommended. The proposed Order will be issued during the regularly scheduled Commission Meeting scheduled for Thursday, July 9, 2026 at 9: 00 a.m. in the Commission Meeting Room located at 38 West Main Street, Room 301, Buckhannon. A copy of the Ordinance is on file for review by interested persons during regular office hours in the office of the County Administrator of Upshur County, West Virginia, 91 West Main Street, Suite 101, Buckhannon, West Virginia.
