POOL OPERATOR Position Summary The City of Grafton is accepting applications for the position of Pool Operator. This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the municipal swimming pool, including water quality management, facility & grounds maintenance, patron safety, and compliance with applicable regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, be self-motivated, and work effectively with the public, City officials, and staff. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operate and maintain the municipal swimming pool in accordance with state and local regulations. Monitor, test, and maintain proper water chemistry levels and maintain required records. Inspect and maintain pool equipment, pumps, filters, and related systems. Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to pool facilities and equipment. Ensure pool decks, bathhouses, restrooms, and surrounding areas are clean and safe. Identify and address safety hazards and enforce pool rules and regulations. Order and mix chemicals to maintain proper water chemistry levels. Assist with seasonal opening and closing of the pool. Work cooperatively with lifeguards and seasonal staff to ensure efficient daily operations. Respond to emergencies and complete incident documentation as needed. Provide courteous customer service and assist patrons. Scheduling of lifeguards, swim meets, party reservations, and other events. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Must be at least 18 years of age. Valid driver’s license required. Must obtain and maintain a West Virginia Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Certification or equivalent certification. Must obtain and maintain Food Manager Certification or equivalent Previous experience in aquatics, recreation, maintenance, or facility operations is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work independently and maintain accurate records. Knowledge of pool operations, water treatment, and facility maintenance preferred. Ability to work effectively with the public and City personnel. Commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment. Working Conditions Work is performed indoors and outdoors and includes standing, walking, bending, lifting, and exposure to pool chemicals and varying weather conditions. Must be available to work weekends, evenings, and designated holidays during the pool season. Must be within half-hour of facility when the facility is open. Compensation Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
