NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

Public hearing for the following Ordinance will be held during the special meeting of Common Council on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at 6:30 p.m., in Council Chambers of Beckley City Hall. All interested parties are urged to attend. ORDINANCE CREATING ONE HOUR METERED PARKING IN THE CUT-OUT PARKING SPACES ON NEVILLE STREET AND MAIN STREET WHEREAS, the City of Beckley Parking Commission at its regularly scheduled meeting on May 26, 2015, voted to recommend to City of Beckley Common Council that an Ordinance be presented to Common Council for its consideration eliminate free one-hour parking in the cut-out parking spaces on Neville Street and Main Street, and replace free parking with metered parking in the cut-out spaces with a maximum time limit of one hour per vehicle per parking space; and WHEREAS, it further recommended that the City charge twenty-five cents for thirty minutes and fifty cents for one hour of parking. NOW, BE IT HEREBY ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BECKLEY that the City of Beckley revise its current policy of free one hour parking in the cut-out parking spaces on Neville Street and Main Street and convert these spaces to one hour metered parking spaces, that parking meters be installed in these cut-out spaces and that the cost of parking be set at twenty-five cents for a half hour of parking and fifty cents for one hour of parking. It is further ordained that parking is to be limited to a maximum of one hour per vehicle per space. Any vehicle remaining in a parking space longer than one hour shall be considered to be illegally parked and shall be subject to receiving a citation for being illegally parked. Any illegally parked vehicle shall be subject to receiving a separate citation for each hour the vehicle is illegally parked. The City is authorized to install the parking meters and place signage advising the public of metered parking in the cut-out spaces and the maximum one hour limit of a vehicle parking in a metered space.
