Application for an Underground Injection Control (UIC) Permit
DRAFT PERMIT NO. 1564-24-081
The State of West Virginia, Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Water and Waste Management (DWWM) is proposing to issue a Class 5A8 UIC Permit for the underground disposal of wastewater from a fish hatchery.
LOCATION: The facility has not yet been constructed at the proposed location, along Maple Meadow Mine Road, Fairdale, in Raleigh County, WV 25389. The injection point is identified in the application as being at:
Latitude: 37 degrees 45 minutes 34.56 seconds
Longitude: -81 degrees 22 minutes, 1.39 seconds.
ACTIVITY: Class 5A8 injection is defined in the WV Code of State Rules 47-9A as Groundwater Aquaculture Return Flow Wells — reinject groundwater or geothermal fluids used to support aquaculture. Non-geothermal aquaculture disposal wells are also included in this category (e.g. Marine aquariums in Hawaii use relatively cool sea water).

The Draft Permit may be inspected by appointment between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday from July 29, 2024 – August 29, 2024 at the Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Water and Waste Management, Public Information Office, 601 57th Street SE, Charleston, WV 25304. Copies of the documents may be obtained from the Division from the contact person listed below.

The draft general permit will also be available for viewing on the DEP website at www.dep.wv.gov.

All comments received within this period will be considered prior to the Director acting on the Draft Permit. Correspondence should include the name, address, and telephone number of the writer and a concise statement of the nature of the issues being raised. The Director may hold a public hearing whenever a finding is made, based on requests, that there is a significant degree of public interest in issues relevant to the draft General Permit.
