PROBATIONARY POLICE
PATROL OFFICER –
City of Weirton, West Virginia
Public Notice is hereby given that the City of Weirton Police Civil Service Commission will be conducting a Probationary Police Patrol Officer Exam.
Applications can be obtained at the City Clerk’s office beginning Friday, October 10, 2025. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and be 18 years old at the time the application is submitted. There are no residency requirements.
All applicants are required to attend the Physical Agility Exam portion of the testing on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Weir High School, 200 Red Rider Road, Weirton, WV 26062. Registration for the exam will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. All applicants must be present on December 6, 2025 . THERE WILL BE NO MAKE-UP EXAMS.
Applicants who pass the Physical Agility Exam will move on to the Written Exam. The Written Exam portion of the testing will be conducted on Friday, December 19, 2025. Registration for the exam will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. at the Millsop Community Center, 3420 Main Street, Weirton, WV 26062. All applicants participating in the Written Exam must be present on December 19, 2025 . THERE WILL BE NO MAKE-UP EXAMS.
The minimum starting annual salary, which includes holiday pay, is $62,183.00. Additional benefits and perks include, but are not limited to, health and other supplemental benefits, attendance bonuses, a uniform allowance, paid holidays, paid vacations, longevity pay, sick leave, compensatory time, and tuition reimbursement. The City of Weirton also offers a take-home vehicle program.
Veterans : The Police Civil Service Commission will award five (5) preference points to any applicant who is a Veteran with an Honorable Discharge for service in the Armed Forces of the United States. A copy of his/her DD-214 must be submitted with the application.
Certified Law Enforcement Officers : West Virginia Certified Applicants and Out-of-State Applicants in Good Standing who possess current certifications accepted by the West Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Program (documentation is required):
a. Will receive five (5) preference points added to his/her final test score
b. Will not be required to take the physical agility exam
c. Will be given three personal days
d. Will, upon signing a two-year contract, receive a $10,000 bonus that will be paid over the course of the two-year contract period.
Applications will be available for pickup beginning Friday, October 10, 2025, at the City Clerk’s office in Room 102 of the Weirton Municipal Building located at 200 Municipal Plaza, Weirton, WV 26062, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding any holidays). Please contact the Clerk’s office at 304-797-8500, Ext. 1045 to arrange the pickup of an application, or visit www.cityofweirton.com to print an application. The completed application, including all required documentation referenced in the application, must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office by the deadline of 4:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 2025.
Applications will not be accepted without proof of high school graduation in the form of a diploma or GED certificate. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
