PUBLIC HEARING

There will be a Public Hearing on the following ordinance on June 14, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. in the Common Council Chambers at Beckley City Hall. This Ordinance will be available for review at Beckley City Hall, 409 South Kanawha Street between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday. AN ORDINANCE CREATING THE RANK OF PATROLMAN FIRST CLASS IN THE BECKLEY POLICE DEPARTMENT WHEREAS, the City of Beckley Police Department (Department) has amended the Department’s rank structure to create the rank of Patrolman First Class; and WHEREAS, the Department desires to codify the rank of Patrolman First Class NOW, BE IT HEREBY ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BECKLEY that the rank structure of the Beckley Police Department is revised to create the rank Patrolman First Class. Upon the completion of the officer’s first two (2) years of service with the Department, the officer shall automatically be eligible for promotion from the rank of Patrolman to the rank of Patrolman First Class. The promotion to Patrolman First Class is automatic and is not based upon the results of a competitive test. The officer shall hold the rank of Patrolman First Class for a minimum of two (2) years. Upon completion of two (2) years service as a Patrolman First Class, the officer shall be eligible to test for promotion to the rank of Corporal. Promotion from the rank of Patrolman First Class to the rank of Corporal is not automatic, but shall be based upon the results of a competitive test. The officer holding the rank of patrolman First Class shall continue in that rank until the Department’s needs and requirements call for additional officers with the rank of Corporal within the Department’s rank structure. The Department’s rank structure above the rank of Patrolman First Class shall remain the same as the previous rank structure and shall not be affected by this Ordinance.
