CITY OF ELKINS
The City of Elkins Council is considering amendments to the 1901 Elkins City Charter as authorized by West Virginia Code section 8-4-8. The proposed amendments are intended to codify certain organizational, operational and ethical protocols and requirements of the City and its governing body, and to conform to West Virginia law and modern municipal management.
These amendments are available for review at www.bit.ly/ElkinsCharterUpdate. Printed copies of these amendments are also available at the Elkins City Hall or by calling the City Clerk at 304-636-1414 ext. 1211.
The City Council will conduct a public hearing regarding the proposed amendments at the Elkins City Hall on November 9, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. During this hearing, City Council will welcome and receive comments, objections and suggestions regarding the proposed amendments from any qualified voter or freeholder of the City of Elkins. Persons unable to attend the hearing may submit to the City Clerk written comments, objections and suggestions regarding the proposed amendments. Written submissions will be accepted until the public hearing is convened and will be included in the record to be considered by Council.
Any qualified voter or freeholder may make written comments, suggestions or objections to the proposed amendments. If no objections are filed, or if objections filed are withdrawn at the time of the hearing or within ten days after the hearing, Council may take final action by enacting by ordinance the amendments, to be effective no sooner than ten days following the public hearing.
