Notice is hereby given that Pocahontas Coal Company LLC, 109 Appalachian Drive, Beckley, WV 25801 has a permit on file with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for the surface mining of approximately 337.53 acres and has submitted an application to the DEP, 1159 Nick Rahall Greenway, Fayetteville, WV 25840, for renewal of Article 3 Permit Number S301013 to maintain and operate a coal surface mine with auger/highwall mining in the Pocahontas No. 5, Pocahontas No. 6, Beckley, and all associated riders and splits thereof seam of coal. The operation is discharging into Unnamed Tributaries of/and Beetree Branch of Devil’s Fork and Unnamed Tributaries of/and Devil’s Fork, Unnamed Tributaries of/and Big Branch, Unnamed Tributaries of/and Comer Branch of Barkers Creek, all of the Guyandotte River of Ohio River and is located 1.8 miles south of Rhodell in Slab Fork and Barkers Ridge District of Raleigh and Wyoming County, Longitude 81° 18’ 18” and Latitude 37° 34’ 58” (Coordinates from USGS Topographic Map).

Written comments and/or requests for an informal conference of the permit renewal application shall identify the applicant and application number and will be received by the Permit Supervisor at the DEP address above until December 6, 2024, or thirty (30) days from the date of final publication.
