Wyoming County has been awarded funds through the State Set-Aside (SSA) process under Phase 42 of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) $6,385 to supplement food and shelter programs in the county. This selection was made by a National Board that is chaired by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency and consists of representatives from the American Red Cross, Catholic Charities, USA; National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA; The Jewish Federations of North America; The Salvation Army; United Way Worldwide. The Local Board has been charged to distribute funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high need areas around the country. The Local Board determines how the funds awarded to Wyoming County are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by the local service agencies in the area. Distribution of theses funds in Wyoming County has previously been made to Covel Baptist Food Pantry, Local Union 7604 Food Pantry, Itmann Food Bank, and Matheny Methodist Food Pantry for the provision of food. Last year these agencies provided thousands of meals for over 5,000 families in Wyoming County. These agencies fulfill the following requirements of the National Board. Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must; 1) be private voluntary non-profits or units of governments; 2) have an accounting system; 3) practice non-discrimination; 4) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and / or shelter programs; 5) if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board. An agency meeting these qualifications may apply.
