THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE COUNTY OF FAYETTE
NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS

DATES, PLACES AND TIME OF PUBLIC HEARINGS:

— Divide Elementary School Hearing will be held on May 25, 2021 at the Divide Elementary School beginning at 6:00 p.m.
— Ansted Elementary School Hearing will be held on May 26, 2021 at the Ansted Elementary School beginning at 6:00 p.m.

DURATION AND CONTINUATION OF PUBLIC HEARINGS: In the event a public hearing is not completed by 11:00 p.m. on the scheduled date, it will be recessed and will be reconvened on the following day, at the location from which the public hearing was recessed, to begin at 4:30 p.m. The public hearings and any reconvened sessions of the public hearings shall end at the conclusion of business or 11:00 p.m., whichever occurs earlier.

ALTERNATIVE PLACES/DATES OF THE PUBLIC HEARINGS: If, when a public hearing is called to order, it is determined that the meeting facility is of insufficient size, the location of the public hearing shall be subject to change. If the location of the public hearing is changed for this reason, the public hearing shall be recessed and reconvened one hour later than its original scheduled time on the same evening at an alternate location. A notice reflecting any change in the public hearing location shall be posted at the original meeting location.

Should any listed hearing be unable to be held on the scheduled date, due to inclement weather or other factors, that hearing will be held on May 27, 2021.

PROPOSED ACTION OF THE BOARD: The closure of Ansted Elementary School grades PK-5 and Divide Elementary School grades PK-5 at the end of the 2022-2023 school year; beginning with the 2023 school year the creation of a new Midland Trail Elementary School to accommodate all students from the closure of Ansted Elementary School and Divide Elementary School. The new Midland Trail Elementary School will be a PK-5 facility located on the Midland Trail campus.

The vote on the school closures will be conducted at the conclusion of the final public hearing.

SUBMISSION OF WRITTEN MATERIALS: Written materials may be submitted for consideration by the Board. Written materials must be physically received in the Office of the Superintendent, 111 Fayette Avenue, Fayetteville, West Virginia 25840-1299, by the end of the business on May 26, 2021.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION: Members of the public may be present, submit statements and testimony and question county school officials. Members of the public who desire to submit statements and testimony or to question county school officials shall be afforded an opportunity to register beginning one hour prior to the start of the public hearing and ending at the start of the public hearing. Persons shall not be permitted to register at any reconvened public hearing sessions. Persons shall be called upon in the order of registration. All questions shall be initially directed to the Superintendent who may answer the question or designate another school official to address the question. Based upon the number of persons who register, the Board may limit, in a uniform manner, the time allotted to each individual. However, the time allotted may not be limited to a period of less than three minutes. Registered individuals may not assign or relinquish their allotted time to another individual. Responses to questions by school officials shall not be included in a period of allotted time.
