Sealed bids will be received by City of Smithers, P.O. Box 489, Smithers WV 25186 until Monday, April 4, 2022 2:00 local time, at which time all sealed bids received will be publicly opened and read aloud for the renovation of the former Cavalier Market at 54 Michigan Avenue in Smithers. This City owned property is approximately 100 years old, in poor condition, currently has no utilities connected, and needs renovation for safety, security, and new life to attract a new business. The work to be bid upon is described as follows: Selected contractor shall furnish all materials, labor, and equipment to renovate, repair, rehab, remove unneeded and dilapidated old internal walls, and construct and install various structural, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical components of the building. Work on the building’s front is to include new windows, door/locks, power-washing of brick, replacement of old vinyl siding. The goal of the work is to convert the old former grocery store into a safe and attractive structure to house a new business and to meet code. It is expected the work will be extensive. City will open the building for inspection to prospective bidders on March 29th from 9:00am to 2:30pm, and bidders need to be prepared to bring ladder(s), lights, and all other equipment and supplies needed to fully inspect the building to determine their bids.
