NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
TAZEWELL COUNTY, VIRGINIA ORDINANCE PERTAINING TO
TRASH, GARBAGE, REFUSE, AND LITTER
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Board of Supervisors of Tazewell County, Virginia (the Board), will conduct a public hearing on September 12, 2023 at 7:10 PM, or as soon thereafter as may be practical, at the Tazewell County Administration Building, located at 197 Main Street, Tazewell, Virginia 24651, and hereby gives its intent to consider and adopt the Tazewell County, Virginia Ordinance Pertaining to Trash, Garbage, Refuse, and Litter (the Ordinance).
Sections 10.1-1414 et seq. and 15.2-901 of the Code of Virginia (1950), as amended, permits the Board to deem unlawful the storage or accumulation of trash, garbage, refuse, litter, clutter, or other substances that may endanger the health or safety of other residents of Tazewell County, Virginia (the County), except on land used in active farming operations. The Board believes that the accumulation of trash, garbage, refuse, and litter throughout the County is a significant issue facing the County’s residents, which creates a compelling governmental issue for the Board to consider. If adopted, the Ordinance would authorize removal of the accumulated trash, garbage, refuse, litter, clutter, or other substances, and permit the Board to assess liens and civil penalties for such violations.
All persons wishing to comment on the Ordinance are hereby invited to attend and state their views thereon. A notification of five (5) working days before the meeting will enable the Tazewell County Administrator’s Office to make reasonable arrangements to ensure accessibility to the meeting.
