Notice is hereby given that SOUTHERN MINERALS, INC., PO BOX 770, 356 S COLLEGE AVE, BLUEFIELD, VA 24701 has a permit on file with the the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for the surface mining of approximately 223.33 acres and has submitted an application to the DEP, 1159 Nick Rahall Greenway, Fayetteville, WV 25840 for renewal of Article 3 Permit Number S301912 to operate a contour surface mine with highwall mining in the Sewell, Sewell A, Sewell B, Welch seam of coal.
The operation is discharging into unnamed tributaries of Jed Branch, Jed Branch, unnamed tributaries of Harris Branch, Harris Branch, unnamed tributaries of Mitchell Branch, Mitchell Branch all of Tug Fork River and Meetinghouse Branch of Elkhorn Creek of Tug Fork River and is located 1.85 miles, North of Wilcoe in Adkin & Brown District of McDowell County, Longitude 81o 33’ 18” and Latitude 37o 24’ 17”.

Written comments and/or requests for an informal conference of the permit renewal application shall identify the applicant and application number and will be received by the Permit Supervisor at the DEP address above until January 4, 2024, or thirty (30) days from the date of final publication.
