INVITATION TO APPLY FOR PRE-QUALIFICATION FOR THE TAZEWELL REGIONAL
WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT IMPROVEMENTS
PROJECT
The Town of Tazewell is soliciting contractor’s pre-qualifications for the construction of the Tazewell Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvement project, located at Tazewell Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant, 618 Pisgah Road, Tazewell VA, 24651.
Only contractors that have been pre-qualified in accordance with the procedures in the Prequalification Application will be eligible to submit bids for this project. Bids received from those who have not been pre-qualified will not be considered. Construction bids for this project are scheduled to be received on March 20, 2024.
The Tazewell Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvement project involves the following elements:
• Construction of a new wetwell/drywell influent pump station with a mechanical screen system;
• Replacement of primary sludge, secondary recycle sludge, waste sludge, digested sludge, nonpotable and various other pumps;
• Construction of a new induced vortex grit removal system at the existing grit building;
• Replacement of clarified mechanisms at two primary clarifiers and two secondary clarifiers;
• Replacement of air diffuser, mixing systems and associated blowers for a dual train MLE activated sludge secondary treatment system;
• Installation of an MLE MLSS recycle pump system;
• Replacement of the existing channel UV system;
• Rehabilitation of an existing dual traveling bridge tertiary filtration system;
• Replacement of air diffuser systems and associated blowers for two aerobic digesters;
• A building addition to the existing pre-engineered metal building housing the sludge dewatering system;
• Demolition of existing glass greenhouse building at dewatered cake storage area;
• Construction of new open-walled structure over dewatered cake storage area;
• Replacement of miscellaneous process piping, valves, gates, and meters;
• Installation of new process instrumentation including DO, pH and ORP meters;
• Roof replacement at two buildings; • Ventilation and heat replacement/improvements at three buildings;
• Replacement of existing controls and SCADA throughout the plant;
• Electrical upgrades;
• Miscellaneous demolition throughout the plant to allow for installation of new equipment.
The General Contract for this project is anticipated to be advertised for bid on February 16, 2024. The projected contract award is planned for April 2024, with an anticipated construction start in May 2024. The overall construction duration is planned to be 18 months. These estimated dates and durations are subject to change.
Pre-qualification Applications will be received at Thompson & Litton, Inc. at P.O. Box 5427, Princeton WV 24740 (1105 Mercer Street, Princeton WV 24740) until exactly 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. Applications received after this time will not be accepted.
A hard copy of the Pre-qualification Application may be obtained commencing on Monday, November 27, 2023, from Town of Tazewell, 211 Central Avenue, Tazewell, Virginia 24651; Thompson & Litton, 1105 Mercer Street, Princeton WV 24740; and TRASCO.

The Town of Tazewell reserves the right to reject any and all Applications, and to waive informalities and irregularities in the Pre-qualification Application procedure.
