Notice is hereby given that SOUTHERN MINERALS, INC., PO BOX 770, 336 S COLLEGE AVE, BLUEFIELD, VA 24701 has a permit on file with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for the surface mining of approximately 413.77 acres and has submitted an application to the DEP, 1159 Nick Rahall Greenway, Fayetteville, WV 25840, for renewal of Article 3 Permit Number S400307 to operate a surface mine in the Pocahontas No. 9, Beckley and Middle Horsepen seam of coal. The operation is discharging into Big Branch of Dry Fork, unnamed tributaries of Jacobs Fork of Dry fork and unnamed tributaries of Dry Fork and Dry Fork of Tug Fork River and is located 0.6 miles, Southwest of Cucumber Big Creek in Big Creek District of McDowell County, Longitude 81o38’5” and Latitude 37o16’21” (Coordinates from USGS Topographic Map).

Written comments and/or requests for an informal conference of the permit renewal application shall identify the applicant and application number and will be received by the Permit Supervisor at the DEP address above until February 8, 2024, or thirty (30) days from the date of final publication.
